How To Pray When You Don’t Feel Like It
How to pray when you don’t feel like it? As Christians, when all is going well, prayer is easy, right? We praise, we smile and do all the things. But…when life gets hard, we sometimes don’t feel like praying. I surely don’t if I’m being honest.
I want to get quiet and pout.
Life just seems harder these days than it was several years ago. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like every day is a challenge…..a journey. I’m still waiting for that Hallmark movie day.
On days when you don’t feel like praying, it’s ok, God is still there for all of us. He loves us so much and is always by our side to help, if we ask.

The asking may just be, Lord, I don’t understand, but I am going to trust you through this. That is a simple, but powerful prayer in the eyes of God.
Be Still and Know that I am God
In Psalm 46:10 NIV, “He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.'” Sometimes we can just sit and be still in the presence of God and in the silence with no words, God is working.
Finding that special spot is so important to sit with the Lord and “Be Still.” The front porch for me on the steps is my little spot where I can just sit and listen and know that He is God.
Simple sounds of nature takes me into another mindset. Another mind that only comes from getting quiet. The beautiful sounds from the little birds, the deer that may gently walk out from the woods or the beautiful sky that is often missed because I simply didn’t look up.
We need this time with the Lord. This is very difficult to accomplish if you don’t plan it in your busy day. And, trust me, you know who doesn’t like this time so you will have to fight for it.
I know for myself, many thoughts enter my brain like…..I need to put that load of laundry in or I forgot that, better go do it. Or, let me check my email really quick. All of those “to do’s” may lead into never making it to that special quiet time with the Lord.

The List-How To Pray When You Don’t Feel Like It
Have your morning to do list and stick to it no matter what. For example, coffee, laundry, devotion and quiet time, tidy up for 10 minutes and pack up for work. For me, I want to get the laundry going so I don’t worry about it. Then, it is off to quiet time. Sometimes the order varies, but be diligent about making this time for you and Jesus.
Challenge
During this time, I would challenge you to put your cell phone away. Otherwise, we are looking at texts and trying to get those answered. Then, emails are popping up that “act like” they are an emergency.
All of these things will mess up and steal this precious morning time.
This time is needed to prepare us for the day ahead. Turning off your cell is a great option too, if you can.
The cell phone is part of life in this century for most. But, I sometimes wish I didn’t have one. That’s for another post. Heeee!
Try this and see what happens.
Ask Someone To Pray For You-How To Pray When You Don’t Feel Like It
When we don’t feel like praying, ask someone else to. Go to your mom, dad, husband, wife, friend or Pastor and let them pray for you.
It is truly an honor to pray for someone that asks you to. If you are asked to pray for someone, just do it right then. If not, you may forget. Not that I ever forget anything….that way, it is done!
Our prayers to God don’t have to be all fancy. Just speak to him from your heart and talk to God as your best friend. He is the best friend we will ever have.
Prayer For You
Dear Jesus, thank you that we can come to you at anytime and pray and spend quality time with you. The King of Kings! Even though there are times when we don’t feel like praying, you still love us and you are right there. Thank you for always being there! We love you Lord, Amen.
