How To Have A Good Morning Routine With Kids

How to have a good morning routine with kids? Is it possible to have one? I have been struggling!! Getting up and everyone ready and out the door!

Morning school haul is a race for sure!  I drive to 2 different schools each morning.  One is way across town and then back to the other school.  How I feel like a race car driver most mornings.

The Super Slow Driver- How To Have A Good Morning Routine With Kids

This morning I had decided to just give up with trying to make it on time to school as we were pretty late! Then, at one point, I thought there was hope! Then guess what? I got behind a super slow driver.  When you are in the moment, this is not a happy time. But, truly I think these situations may happen for a reason. To slow us down and keep us safe.

Are you like me and start thinking? I bet they are texting on that phone! So after a bit of driving a little too close and just giving up, AGAIN, on the fact that we are late! And, we were going to get a tardy for sure!

Finally, arriving at one of the schools behind the slow driver, the driver door opens and a young girl gets out. Switches places with her mom. She was a student driver, hello!! That’s why she was driving so slow. Anyway, I felt just terrible. Thankfully, I had not followed too close for very long, like I may normally would have done. But, the mom in me just wanted to get out and hug her and say, “I am so sorry for following too close and you are doing an awesome job!”

Tardy Tuesday

This Tuesday morning for the last school drop off, we did get a tardy. It was deserved though. We took it and it was ok. Thankfully, the first one this year, but it was a good lesson for me.

Whether they are a student still trying to learn or just someone who drives slow, it doesn’t matter. If I allow extra time in the morning, it will be ok. Maybe even enjoy the drive a little better without being in a hurry and look up at the beauty of the day!

Get Up Earlier- How To Have A Good Morning Routine With Kids

Each morning I try to start my morning with a little prayer. Thanking God for a new day and asking for His help with getting the kids ready for the day. Boy do I need it!

Get up earlier!! I am talking to myself here. Can I say, get up and quit hitting the snooze button. Allow yourself some time to get some coffee, get yourself ready and still have plenty of time to get the kids up and going for school.

Mornings are so tough at our house.  I get the oldest up and then she falls back asleep while I am getting morning to do’s completed. I am back and forth getting her woke up and then my son after that.  Some mornings are harder than others. By allowing some extra time, we will be prepared!

Benefits of Extra Time

The next morning I did get up earlier! Yaay!  I still had some troubles, but with the extra time, it was ok!  My son had to go do a #2, my daughter had a stain on her pants, but guess what? Thankfully, I had another pair of pants clean and she liked them! Hallelujah!! Do your kids have several pair of pants in their closet, but they only like 2 pairs or so???  Surely not? That drives me crazy, but we go with it. The extra time helps you not loose it when these things pop up in the morning that can’t be helped. You will be ready for them!

Have Everything Ready The Night Before- How To Have A Good Morning Routine With Kids

Every night I have my “chores,” that’s what I call them. My little routine that helps me get ready for the next day! I get the coffee ready, wash water bottles, lay out clothes and make sure devices are charged, etc. Anything I can do ahead of time, I try my best to do it.

I have been doing this for a few years now and it really makes a difference in my mornings. Peace is possible!

Prayers On The Way

One thing we always try to do is say a morning prayer on the way to school. We take turns between the two kids as to who says it. They do a good job saying the prayers and it blesses my heart hearing them pray. And, if some mornings they are just both in a mood, I will say the prayer. This helps us all get grounded for the day ahead with the Lord! He makes a way everyday and blesses us in so many ways!

What Works For You- How To Have A Good Morning Routine With Kids

What works for you and your family is a good morning routine. I have found that every child is different and you know your child. We can make changes as things don’t work. It is truly trial and error.

I am still learning and trying new things with our morning routine to try and improve it! And I have been doing this for a few years now and still don’t have it perfected. But, as they grow they change and we have to change with what works!

A Race Well Won

Some mornings once I have dropped everyone off and finally get stopped for a minute, I feel like I have won a marathon race! A deep breath is sometimes needed. When I am in the right frame of mind, starting the day with the Lord, I can think about the good in that morning. How blessed I am to be able to take my kids to school. Having that time together, wishing them a good day and prayers on the way!

In this journey of raising children, not all is picture perfect. But, if we stop and find the lesson in the hard times, it sure makes it worth the race that we are running! A race well won!

Mom Medal- How To Have A Good Morning Routine With Kids

If you are a mom reading this post and can relate, I just want to say this….You are doing an amazing job! When life is hard and you feel like throwing in the towel because you can’t get it all done, the house is a wreck, work is hard, the kids won’t listen, etc. I could go on and on, but know this….

As a mom, we have the hardest job trying to balance it all. But, at the same time, we have the best job! Every moment that is spent with our children is worth it. They need us and they were given to us by God for a special reason. To raise them in the way of the Lord, to care for them and to love them! With God, we can do it!

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for moms and how special You made them to be! As we struggle to try our very best, help us to know that we are going to make mistakes. Help us to know that through the tough mornings and evenings and days that you are with us, no matter what! Thank you for always being there! In Jesus Name, Amen.
