How To Feel Better As A New Mom
How to feel better as a new mom? How exciting it is to have a newborn and all the wonderful things that come along with it! It’s almost like you picture that Hallmark movie scene, coming home and everything just perfect. Then what happens?
I remember thinking, why did no one tell me about all of this? I was so overwhelmed with my first child. Trying to learn and do and get sleep and just all the things that you must do as a new mama.
This morning, I was getting ready and fixing my hair and I thought about something that helped me during this time. And, it still helps me today to get myself together and prepare for the day and journey ahead.

Get Ready- How to feel better as a new mom
Get ready for the day ahead! Because you are going to need it. When I was struggling, I would still be in my pjs for so much of the day. I would be dragging around, trying to hold the baby, clean, get a nap, then later in the day, I would maybe get ready. I felt awful!
This was in the first months of being a new mom. Boy how I wished someone had said, snap out of it, you will survive, get ready and get this day going! During this time, it is so hard. You almost need a sideline couch, cheering you on.
Take 5- How to feel better as a new mom
Take 5 minutes and get your face on if you wear makeup and if you don’t, do “You!” Do whatever makes you feel good and complete for the day! If you don’t feel like a full makeup day, just do a little. For example, eye liner, mascara and lipstick. Today, that is sometimes what I do, and I still feel good, but it takes 2 minutes or less to do it. So worth it!
Also, fix your hair. So many moms with long hair get their hair cut when they have a baby, now I understand why. You just need “easy” during this time. Whatever works that is quick, easy and you feel put together. Pulling my hair back with a clip and my make-up on, feels pretty good.
Try this 5-minute miracle! I promise, it is a game changer. Maybe that cute short cut is something you may want to try. Trial and error until you find what works for your life and your precious family.
Make A Note- How to feel better as a new mom
Make a note for the day ahead. What do you need to get done for the day? Write it down, get it done and enjoy that precious child. How I can’t stress enough how that time will fly by. Once it is gone, it is gone, but the messes of life with keeping a home are ongoing. We have to do all the things, but get your plan for the day on paper and it will help you get it done!
Don’t Worry About Everything- How to feel better as a new mom
Don’t worry about everything! How I am still learning in this field of don’t worry. Try not to though. I worried about so many things as a new mom that I shouldn’t have. Ask lots of questions from other moms that have been there. Ask your mom. She will know what to do. Just remember that every child is different. But as your child’s mom, you will figure out what is best for yours.
I remember trying to find a bottle that my daughter would take. After breastfeeding her, she didn’t want a bottle. We tried all kinds from expensive to cheap. It was so frustrating and I was so tired of trying. One day I was talking to my mom on the phone and she said, “You loved the Playtex Nurser bottle.” It had drop-in liners. I was desperate. I went and got one and guess what, she took it. It was a joyful day! Praise the Lord!
Pray- How to feel better as a new mom
Pray when your feet hit the floor. Ask for God’s help for the day ahead and His guidance. He will see you through the day that seems so hard! I encourage you to memorize a strength Bible verse, one that speaks to you. When the day seems tough, you can repeat that strength verse over and over.
My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13 NIV, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

I also encourage you to read a short devotional at some point during the day. As a new mom, it is so hard to have a set schedule of when you do things. This is because, who comes first?? That little one! Do what you can, when you can. Set a devotional somewhere you won’t forget it.
Prayer
Dear Lord, how I pray for the precious mom reading this today that you would bless her in a mighty way. Give her the amazing strength that she needs, especially if she didn’t sleep good last night. Help her to know that today is a new day, a gift from you. Help her when she feels like she can’t do it to know that with you she can! Thank you for what you are going to do today for all of us. We love you in Jesus name, Amen.
