How To Get Through Tough Times With The Lord
Learn how to get through tough times with the Lord? It seems like it is something happening all the time, tough times for ourselves our friends or people we hear about. Last year at this time, my dad was sick with cancer and I remember it was so hard, trying to do it all and not go completely crazy. So, how do we get through these tough times?
Do you ever truthfully wonder, where are you Lord? I know I do. I have to remember, He is in control, no matter what is happening in our own life, in our friends life or in the world around us. He knows all about it and there is a purpose for it all.
He never moves his sitting place, but I sure do. Do you play musical chairs trying to figure everything out on your own? Then once you have tried out all the chairs that didn’t work do you start thinking, maybe God has a better way?
Start Each Day With His Word
If we start each day with God’s Word, reading our Bible or a devotional, we get our day started with the strength that He promises. I have been trying to do this the past several months and it has been such a game changer. The problems, tough times, struggles, hardships, bad news, trials, fusses, it all still comes at you, but you have coached yourself that morning to prepare for the day at hand. We must put on the protection from the Lord, the full armor of God.

The Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” To read the full chapter, visit Biblegateway.
Pray Without Ceasing- How To Get Through Tough Times With The Lord?
You know when you have a relationship with the Lord, you just talk to Him. Just like a friend. That’s what he wants us to do. Simple prayers throughout the day that says Lord, help me with this, I need you. Or, Lord, that made me upset, but instead of talking about it, I am going to leave it with you today and ask for your help. Each time we call on him, we let him know that we trust in him.
Ask For Prayer
Ask others to pray for you. If we ask others to pray, it helps us feel like we are not alone. Matthew 18:20 NIV says, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
I have a special friend group that if any one of us need prayer for anything, we just text our group and ask. Some will reply, “on it” or “done” or “you got it!” No questions have to be asked because we know God knows what is going on and he has it. I thank God for these amazing friends in my life. They are my buddies and are truly a gift.
Spend Time With Family And Friends- How To Get Through Tough Times With The Lord?
Sometimes when we are going through a tough time, it is so comforting to have loved ones around. Make sure they are positive ones, right! With God, your family and your friends, you will get through this time.
Be Thankful
Being thankful and finding the good always helps me when I am struggling. Writing these things down can help you remember when you need to be encouraged. I have never really journaled, well maybe when I was young, but not in my adult life. During covid I ordered Prayer Journal For Women by Shannon Robert and Paige Tate & Co. It was such a blessing to go back and read how God had worked in the prayer requests I had written down. Try something new this year, try journaling, I promise, you will be encouraged!
My most favorite is devotional is Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young. I continue to read it year after year and each time it wakes up my heart. I love to read a devotional, but reading the Bible is so important too.
